George L. Fox Museum tours are available every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Rev. George L. Fox Memorial Chapel & Museum in Gilman, Vermont. Admission is free, and visitors can explore the museum and chapel at their own pace.

Visitors can enjoy free self-guided tours of the George & Isadore Fox Museum. Because the tours are self-guided, you can take your time and focus on the exhibits, stories, and artifacts that interest you most. In addition, you can spend as much or as little time as you like in each part of the museum.

Discover the Story of Rev. George L. Fox

Throughout the museum, exhibits share stories, photographs, artifacts, and historical details about Rev. George L. Fox and Rev. Isadore H. Fox. Together, these displays help bring their remarkable lives of faith and service to life.

Rev. George L. Fox was one of the Immortal Four Chaplains of World War II. On February 3, 1943, a German submarine torpedoed the U.S. Army transport ship Dorchester as it crossed the North Atlantic.

As the ship sank, the Four Chaplains helped frightened soldiers reach safety. When the supply of life jackets ran out, each chaplain gave his own life jacket to another soldier. Ultimately, the four chaplains went down with the ship together. Today, their extraordinary courage, faith, and sacrifice continue to inspire people around the world.

Learn About Rev. Isadore H. Fox

In addition to George’s story, the museum honors Rev. Isadore H. Fox, his wife and an important part of this remarkable history.

Isadore became an ordained Methodist minister and served communities in Vermont. After her husband’s death, she devoted decades to preserving and sharing his legacy. As a result, her own story of faith, service, and perseverance became an important part of the history visitors discover at the museum. For that reason, the museum gives visitors a fuller picture of both George and Isadore Fox.

In addition to touring the museum, visitors can spend time in the Rev. George L. Fox Memorial Chapel. The chapel offers a quiet place to reflect on the lives, service, courage, and sacrifice remembered here.
